Choosing The Right Builder
It’s a huge decision: Who will build your dream home? Nothing will impact your experience more than which builder you choose. So do your homework!
There are two main things to keep in mind when selecting a builder for your dream home.
First, listen to yourself.
Building your dream home is a very personal process. Take some time to understand what you want and need out of the process. How involved do you want to be? How involved can you be? What type of person do you work with the best? ? Can an existing plan satisfy your new home needs and desires? Do you make up your mind and that’s it, or will you reconsider and make adjustments throughout the process? How much construction knowledge do you have? Are you interested in learning more? Do you have the time and interest to involve yourself in the day-to-day decisions about your home? How quickly do you want or need to move?
Secondly, find a builder that listens to you.
Please promise me that no matter what type of home or type of builder you ultimately choose, you work with a builder that listens to you and what you want. After all, you’re the customer, and it’s your dream home.
Then Find The Right Builder…
You want to find a builder who can meet your needs at the level of quality you want. It’s just as foolish to hire a custom builder to for a production home, as it is to hire a production builder for a fully custom, multi-million dollar home. Why? For the same reason you don’t hire a Tax Attorney to represent you in a personal injury lawsuit. You hire professionals to do what they do best.
For Your Project
And whether your home is categorized as production, semi-custom or custom the “type” of home is no guarantee of its quality. This point is so important I’m going to say it again: Whether your home is categorized as production, semi-custom or custom the “type” of home is no guarantee of its quality. There are many solid, well-built production homes, and there are many custom-built, multi-million dollar homes that are great to look at, but poorly built.
Remember, It’s Your Decision, Make a Good One!
Everyone will offer advice on finding the right builder. Keep in mind that your ideal builder is not necessarily the same one your parents or best friend would select. Consider everyone’s input, but remember that ultimately this choice and the resulting home are yours.
